Erection ring side effects

Erection ring side effects and safe wear times

Erection ring side effects mostly come from a ring that is too tight or worn too long: discomfort, numbness, coldness or bruising. The fix is the right fit and the right wear time. FirmTech rates its TechRing and Performance Ring for up to 12 hours and its tighter MaxPR for up to 90 minutes.

The MaxPR is FirmTech's tightest ring, so it has the shortest wear limit: 90 minutes.

Are erection rings safe to use?

Erection rings are generally safe when they fit and are removed in time. FirmTech rings are doctor designed with urologists, made of soft medical-grade, latex-free elastomer, and adjust so pressure is firm but not too tight. If you have a bleeding disorder or take blood thinners, talk to a doctor before using any ring.

Safe use

Five rules for wearing any erection ring

  1. Take the ring off right away if you feel pain, numbness, coldness or see unusual color change.
  2. Never exceed the wear time for your specific ring.
  3. Use only water- or silicone-based lubricants. No coconut, CBD or other natural oils on FirmTech rings.
  4. Rinse with warm water and mild soap after each use and dry it.
  5. Talk to your doctor first if you have a bleeding disorder or take blood thinners.

Common worries

Does an erection ring stop ejaculation?

No. FirmTech states its rings keep blood in without blocking release. The ring sits at the base and behind the testicles, spreading pressure evenly instead of squeezing one point.

Can you sleep in one? Only in a ring designed for it. FirmTech says the TechRing is designed and studied for overnight wear, and a safety study of a smart ring worn overnight was presented at AUA 2024. Do not sleep in the MaxPR or any non-adjustable ring.

FAQ

Common questions

What are the side effects of erection rings?

Most problems come from a ring that is too tight or worn too long: discomfort, numbness, bruising, or a cold or discolored penis. Remove the ring right away if any of these happen. FirmTech rings use an adjustable hook-and-loop strap so you can set the tension, and each ring has a stated maximum wear time.

How long can I wear an erection ring?

It depends on the ring. FirmTech rates the TechRing and Performance Ring for up to 12 hours and the MaxPR for up to 90 minutes. General guidance for other rings is much shorter: Tenga recommends no more than 20 to 30 minutes at a time. Always follow the limit for the specific ring you own.

Is it safe to sleep in an erection ring?

Only if the ring is designed for it. FirmTech says the TechRing is designed and studied for overnight wear of up to 12 hours, and lists a study on the safety of a smart constriction ring worn overnight, presented at AUA 2024. Do not sleep in a tight ring like the MaxPR, which is limited to 90 minutes.

Who should not use an erection ring?

Talk to a doctor before using any erection ring if you have a bleeding disorder, take blood thinners, or have a circulation or nerve condition. Because erection problems can be linked to heart and blood vessel health, a doctor visit is also wise if ED is new for you.

Does a FirmTech ring stop ejaculation?

No. FirmTech says its rings keep blood in without blocking release, so they do not restrict ejaculation. FirmTech describes the extra pressure of the MaxPR as giving heightened sensation and a more intense finish, while the Performance Ring and TechRing aim for a comfortable, secure fit.

Can I use a FirmTech ring with ED medication?

FirmTech says many men use the TechRing alongside other treatments and use the app to see what is working. FirmTech also presented research at ISSM 2024 comparing PDE5 inhibitors, the Performance Ring and both together. Talk to your doctor about your specific situation before combining treatments.

What lubricant can I use with a FirmTech ring?

Use water-based or silicone-based lubricants only. FirmTech says not to use natural oils such as coconut oil or CBD oil with any of its rings. The TechRing is splashproof, and the Performance Ring and MaxPR are water resistant.
